Black Caucus of the ALA Award recognizes excellence in adult fiction and nonfiction by African American authors published in 2010. WENCH by Dolen Perkins Valdez won the BCALA First Novelist Award!

The Stonewall Book Award-Barbara Gittings Literature Award, the Stonewall Book Award-Israel Fishman Non-Fiction Award and the Children’s & Young Adult Literature Award are presented to English language works published the year prior to the announcement date.. The award winners each receive a commemorative plaque and $1,000.

The Alex Awards are given to ten books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults, ages 12 through 18.
BREAKING NIGHT by Liz Murray was one of the 10 books to receive an Alex Award this year.

Workin’ It! by RuPaul was included in this list.
The Reading List annually recognizes the best books in eight genres: adrenaline (including suspense, thriller and adventure), fantasy, historical fiction, horror, mystery, romance, science fiction and women’s fiction. We had three honor books mentioned:
A FIERCE RADIANCE by Lauren Belfer and THE REBELLION OF JANE CLARKE by Sally Gunning both made the Reading List short list for Historical Fiction
HORNS by Joe Hill made the Reading List short list for Horror

The ALA Quick Picks list suggests books that teens, ages 12-18, will pick up on their own and read for pleasure; it is geared to the teenager who, for whatever reason, does not like to read. The 2011 list includes 87 titles, both nonfiction and fiction, from a variety of genres, including biography, pop culture, fantasy, street lit, and more.
