Dear Librarians,
For years I was an editor at Cosmopolitan magazine. There were so many unique and hilarious things about working at the largest women’s magazine in the world, but one event the staff looked forward to every fall was our 50 Bachelors from 50 States initiative. Each November, a bunch of those 50 very good-looking single guys would descend upon our Manhattan office, leading to pure chaos and even the occasional one-night stand with a staff member.
What does any of this have to do with reading and book clubs and Help for the Haunted? Well, when I was thinking of the upcoming paperback release and of all the great book clubs across the country that I’ve been Skyping/Facetiming/calling into and even visiting in person on occasion, something made me think of that Cosmo initiative. That's when those two separate ideas fused in my mind and the idea of 50 BOOK CLUBS IN 50 STATES was born.
I started out on this quest this past July, and I hope to complete it in July 2015. To fulfill the quest, I will Skype/Facetime/call and even visit in person when possible one book club in every state across the country to discuss Help for the Haunted. If I am able to talk with one book club from each state by July 31, 2015, the first book club I met with in each state will be sent a complete library of my novels as well as a swag-bag filled with my favorite book club books published by HarperCollins! And finally, one book club will even win a date with a good-looking single guy…okay, just kidding about that last part. But the rest is true!

Sign up your book club to Skype with John Searles about his novel Help for the Haunted, and you might win a fantastic collection of books for your book club! Here’s how:
1.Sign up to invite John Searles to your book club, here.
2.If you are the first book club from your state to sign up, John will reach out to you to set up a time to Skype.
3.Based on John’s schedule, he will also chat with as many additional book clubs as possible! He’ll email you directly as soon as he can.
4.If John completes the challenge he’s set for himself – to Skype with a book club in each of the 50 states between July 15, 2014 and July 31, 2015 – then the first book club from each state will receive copies of Strange But True and Boy Still Missing (John’s two earlier novels) for each member of the book club, plus a tote bag full of John’s favorite book club books!
