Happy Book Birthday to BRIGHTON by Michael Harvey!

BrightonAt long last, Brighton is here! The LLF team has been lucky enough to witness this incredible thriller—one of the year's best—blossom from a manuscript brimming with promise to a critically acclaimed powerhouse of a novel. And boy we can't wait to see it on library and store shelves!

This riveting read follows two friends who grew up together in the gritty Boston area of Brighton. Following a shocking act of violence they commit for the sake of justice (or so they think), the two friends' lives take drastically different paths: Kevin, the golden boy, leaves Brighton and grows up to become a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist; Bobby, the not-so-golden boy, stays to take the fall, and, as an adult, becomes the prime suspect in a string of grisly murders that Kevin is now investigating.

We can't say enough about this book that Booklist, in a starred review, called "masterful" and Library Journal, also starred, proclaimed "riveting."  Still not sure?  Check out the fantastic book trailer below and be sure to pick up a copy of Brighton here.

Read Brighton and love it as much as we do?  Let us know at librarylovefest@harpercollins.com.

Dennis Lehane Fans in the House!

Sent - Live By NightTHIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. THANK YOU.

Dennis Lehane, who doesn't love him? He's charming and hilarious and you know, a pretty darn good writer. Well his latest, Live by Night, is due to come out next month and I'd like to give away 20 galleys to 20 lucky fans.  These are not just any old galleys either. They come in lovely slip cases, especially crafted by magical elves.  Ok, that bit's not true, but they are cool.

Combining edgy suspense and the vivid period detail that made The Given Day so good, Live by Night is a masterful epic of Prohibition-era America told through the story of a charismatic young gangster on his rise through the glitz and the violence of the Roaring 20s. Not only does the story immediately sound intriguing, it has been getting heaps of praise, including starred Booklist, PW and Kirkus reviews.

So, what do you have to do to get your hands on one? Riddle me this, Batman….send an email to librarylovefest@harpercollins.com (don't forget to include your mailing address!) and let me know which Dennis Lehane book-to-movie adaptation is your fave. Basically, I'm planning movie night on Friday and need your help choosing what to watch. First 20 responses, win!

Good luck!

ALA 2010, American Library Association, Books, Boston, Cookbooks, Cooking, Craig Ferguson, crime fiction, Dennis Lehane, Moonlight Mile, Ree Drummond

Ree Drummond and Dennis Lehane!

We've got not one, but two, amazing author clips to share today! The first is one of my heroines, Ree Drummond (the Pioneer Woman) on the Today Show.  With some help from Al Roker, Ree makes her famous "evil" cinnamon rolls, loaded up with plenty of butter and gooey maple icing.  Check out the clip here, which includes the recipe.  If anything can beat the morning frost, it's these rolls.  I dare you not to salivate watching them.

Next up! We absolutely love Craig Ferguson, even though he thinks a book is "kind of like a blog, but interesting." ALA favorite Dennis Lehane, who needs no introduction, appeared on Craig's show to chat about Moonlight Mile, the sequel to Gone, Baby, Gone.   Enjoy!
